Video Games Remain Linked to School Violence

In light of recent school shootings, researchers are examining how video games can impact the mindset of young users.

According to the American Psychological Association, children who spend more time playing violent video games are more likely to exhibit aggressive behavior.

Furthermore, the American Academy of Pediatrics found that “exposure to violence in media” poses a “significant risk to the health” of child players.

However, many academics and researchers claim that video game violence is often sensationalized in media reports, creating an unfair portrayal of individuals who play in virtual worlds on a regular basis.

Supporters of video games also cite a controlled study from the Southern Economic Journal which found that child users were less likely to become violent and gained greater skills in critical thinking.
