A federal judge in San Antonio, Texas has blocked the state from moving forward with its ban on sanctuary cities – at least temporarily.

The measure to ban sanctuary cities has been criticized as being “anti-Latino” in its mission to deport illegal persons quickly, pulling apart thousands of families and workers in America without consideration for its effects on children.

“Senate Bill 4 or S.B. 4, prohibits cities and counties from adopting policies that limit immigration enforcement, allows police officers to question the immigration status of anyone they detain or arrest and threatens officials who violate the law with fines, jail time and removal from office,” reported the New York Times.

Several Democratic groups in Texas are joining a lawsuit against the state to stop the bill from passing.
