Missouri Seeking to Improve Prison System

Officials in Missouri are examining different methods to improve the state’s prison system after violence has increased.

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, the state continues to rapidly incarcerate females, causing the overall prison population to increase 6% between 2010 and 2015.

The justice system has also seen an increase of individuals who have failed while being on probation and parole.

Governor of Missouri Eric Greitens is exploring different initiatives to promote public safety.

Currently, Missouri has the nation’s 8th highest incarceration rate with nearly 32,700 prisoners.
