In that time he has also overseen complex mergers of nonprofits, their boards, programs and staffs to better position the resulting organization to serve the community. For 40 years Westside Community Services has provided clients in need with a comprehensive array of services through its mental health, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, violence response and prevention, and youth leadership programs.

Michael Garb was appointed CEO of Youth and Family Enrichment Services (YFES) in 2008 after an extensive business career that included positions as an accountant, controller and CFO; as a small business owner; and as a senior executive and chief operating officer with substantial organizations. In preparation for his transition to the nonprofit field, Michael Garb served for 16 years on the boards of both the Family and Community Enrichment Services (FACES) and Youth and Family Enrichment Services, also knows as YFES, which he now leads. YFES is one of the largest and most respected non-profit agencies in San Mateo County, and provides a wide array of free and low-cost services to help over 34,000 children, youth and adults each year who are dealing with substance abuse, violence, mental health and other issues

He previously held positions as a community organizer and lobbyist on fair trade issues and urban quality of life issues, serving as Field Director for Washington state’s Transportation Choices Coalition and the Washington, DC-based Citizens Trade Campaign.Founded in 1958 as Citizens for Regional Recreation and Parks (CRRP), the Greenbelt Alliance works in partnership with local municipalities, communities and businesses, and has secured protection of more than 1.1 million acres of open space, establish urban growth boundaries around 26 cities and five counties, and endorsed the creation of 60,000 homes within existing urban areas.
