NEW YORK (AP) — Fueled by a surging stock market and huge gifts from billionaires, charitable giving in the United States in 2017 topped the $400 billion mark for the first time, according to the latest comprehensive report on Americans’ giving patterns.
The Roy Lichtenstein Foundation announced its plans to donate over 400 paintings from its collection to the Whitney Museum of American Art, making it the biggest donation of works from a single-artist that the museum has ever recieved.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota businessman and philanthropist said Tuesday he is donating $100 million to the National University System, a nonprofit that focuses on education and philanthropy initiatives.
These last months, 14 more major philanthropists have joined on to the Buffett Giving Pledge, where now more than 183 philanthropists signed a pledge to donate a large portion of their wealth to charity.
The ExxonMobil Foundation matched more than $16 million in contributions from employees, directors and retirees and doubled that contribution, pledging a total of $49 million for 840 higher education institutions.
