Flint Water Crisis Caused Fewer Pregnancies

According to a recent study, women in Flint, Michigan experienced fewer pregnancies due to high levels of lead in drinking water.

After reviewing health records from Flint as well as the state of Michigan, researchers also found that more fetal deaths occurred during the period in which the water was contaminated.

Overall, fertility rates for women in Flint decreased by 14% as fetal death rates increased by 58%.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that high levels of lead can cause miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant women as well as infertility in both men and women.

Exposure to lead can also cause permanent behavioral and neurological disorders, especially in unborn children.
