Colorado Reports First Case of West Nile Virus This Year

The first case of West Nile virus this year was reported in Colorado in Jefferson County.

Health officials have been testing since mid-June, and say that the number of infected mosquitoes with increase over the weeks with warmer weather.

Last year, the state reported nearly 150 cases of the West Nile virus in humans, eight of which resulted in death.

Elders over the age of 60 are most at risk of experiencing serious illness, and only one percent of those infected develop a deadly illness.
