A new survey was launched earlier this week by the Professional Organization for Women in the Arts (POWarts) to unveil the wide spectrum of compensation for men and women in the arts.

The survey asks participants about their title, role, and compensation as well as for information on their gender, age and race. Although the survey will likely indicate a pay gap between male and female artists, its main goal is to inform artists and the industry about differences in salaries across various art roles.

It is important for employers to know whether they are offering competitive pay for artists’ talents, and it is equally important for an artist to know if they are being treated fairly.

“As an employer, I need to know that what we’re offering is competitive,” Kay told Artsy Net in an interview.
