A new study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University has reconfirmed the major benefits for students that come with a diverse staff of teachers.
The study found that minorities are more likely to succeed in education and go on to college if they have teachers who are also minorities supporting them. Black students, for example, were 13 percent more likely to go on to college if they had at least one black teacher.
For students who had at least two black teachers, the benefits were astounding. Minority students were at least 32 percent more likely to pursue higher education.
While the benefits of being exposed to a diversity of role models at a young age is obvious in the study, diversity among teachers is still heavily lacking in the U.S.
