Study Finds Americans Remain Critical of Justice System

Despite recent attempts at reform, Americans believe that local justice systems need to reform in order to reduce the number of overcrowded jails.

According to a new survey released by the MacArthur Foundation, a quarter of respondents petitioned for local reforms that have been implemented in state justice systems.

75 percent of Americans also sought to provide treatment instead of jail time to those who were convicted of crimes and diagnosed with a mental illnesses.

Additionally, the majority of Americans believe that pre-trail services can be utilized to monitor defendants outside of jail.

Justice advocates are seeking ways to minimize the infiltration of non-violent offenders from local prisons.
