Four students who work in nonprofit are suing the U.S. Department of Education, asking for eligibility under the federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program.

The students were initially accepted into the program that forgives government loan debt for students who work in public service or nonprofits for more than 10 years, and they were later denied in follow-up letters and were told that their work or organization did not qualify.

The U.S. Department of Education said that students cannot rely on approval letters for the program because they may be rescinded at any time, reported NPQ.

The program which was created in 2007 will barely begin the process of student loan forgiveness this upcoming fall, for the first time. Troubling to say the least, the program has yet to develop and finalize the actual paperwork that students should fill out to finalize their debt forgiveness.
