Students, Dealing With Stress Starts at Home

Teenagers report having higher stress levels than adults, according to a survey from the American Psychological Association. Since 2013, surveys show an initial disconnect between actual stress level that teenagers reported and how parents perceived their stress levels.

Within the last year however, more parents indicate that they are aware of high stress level their teens feel in high school and are more likely to take it seriously. Part of this, NPR reports, is because of major pushes to raise suicide awareness and advocate proper treatment.

A major way to combat these high stress levels is for parents to create an open dialogue for their children to discuss their stress, to strengthen their communication skills. This allows teens to communicate well in school with their teachers, in order to overcome stress levels and allows them to receive the proper support at school, experts suggest.
