According to a new survey, the number of stay-at-home parents that make up American families is quite small and has been that way for more than a century.
Based on an analysis from the Pew Research Center, the total number of stay-at-home parents in the U.S. is about 1 in every 5, or 18 percent of America’s total parents. While the number of moms who don’t work outside of the home has stayed the same, there has been a slight increase in the number of dads who are stay-at-home parents.
Research shows that the increase in percentage of stay-at-home dads is largely due to changes in gender roles, where younger generations of dads are assuming more responsibility at home and with their families.
