Shortage of Effective Antibiotics Impacting World

According to a report published by the World Health Organization, the rise of drug-resistant infections are a result of dwindling antibiotics.

Researchers found that strands of infections are causing people to become immune to antibiotics and other drugs.

As a result, health care officials are concerned the spread of untreatable diseases will impact individuals across the world.

“More resistant infections don’t just mean you or someone you care about is more likely to die from one, they also mean healthcare will get even more expensive,” said Bill Hanage, associate professor of epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health.

“Many of the procedures we take for granted in medicine, from cancer treatments to surgeries, depend on our ability to handle infection that happen in the course of treatment,” he added.
