Schools to Integrate Extensive Safe Sex Education

Across the US, many school boards are updating information regarding safe sex practices to prevent a surge in teenage pregnancies.

Although the national average of births to teenagers aged 13-18 has decreased in recent years, certain counties report unprecedented rates of pregnancies and STDs among teens.

The Spokane Public School system in Washington is working to improve its sex education curriculum since a recent report found that 44 percent of teenagers in the region did not use a condom during their last sexual encounter.

“Not enough focus was on educating students on how to know if you’re ready, how to know to be safe,” said Janie Wright, a former Spokane student who was not properly informed on importance of maintaining healthy sexual relationships.

Education leaders from across the US are examining the benefits of integrating human sexuality within grammar school course curriculum to instill safe sex practices at younger ages.
