Affordable living spaces are rare in San Francisco – but this doesn’t comes as a surprise for most people living in the city. The cost of living is tremendous, and it impacts everyone, including businesses and nonprofits.
San Francisco is made up of hundreds of nonprofits organizations, many of them offering social services for the large population of homeless people and drug addicts. In the last few years, however, nearly one-third of them have had to move their offices out of San Francisco because costs are simply not within nonprofit budgets.
If approved, however, a new $120M project will create a dozen new affordable spaces for social service nonprofits in the mission district area, selling at 40 percent below market-rate.
The 200,000 square-foot space proposed by Common Ground Urban Development will open up opportunities anew for nonprofits that are dedicated to improving California and the San Francisco community.
