The San Antonio-based nonprofit AVANCE, which supports and strengthens low-income families, recently received a $3.3-grant from the government to further develop its new “Fathers in Action/Padres Activos” Program aimed at low-income fathers in the Rio Grande Valley and Houston. The initiative will promote responsible fatherhood through financial education and workforce development. AVANCE leaders say research demonstrates that children are more successful when they have a father present in their lives.
