Based on new findings, the Washington Post is offering cautious data for nonprofits affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the report, nonprofit experts are estimating that about a third of all Washington, DC nonprofits will close permanently or will merge with other organizations in order to survive.
While many individuals, foundations, and corporations have stepped up to provide funds, food, and other donations when the pandemic first began, the need for resources has greatly outweighed what is currently available.
Human service organizations, including shelter and food-based nonprofits, are particularly at risk for permanently closing due to the overwhelming number of community members who have been financially impacted by the pandemic.
In order to continue serving the public, nonprofits are scrambling to acquire additional grant funding, but only time will tell if they will be able to survive these economic hardships.
