Private Colleges and Four-Year Universities Compete for Community College Transfers

Private colleges and four-year universities are competing for community college students, as they represent a part of the student population that is hard-working, motivated, and oftentimes, an alternative to first-year competition.

Higher education institutions like Brown and Williams College have been looking for ways to formalize getting transfer students from local community colleges to attend their institutions.

Students from community colleges have in the past been overlooked because the schools have been treated as a last resort for low-performing students, but in many cases they are great alternatives to offer scholarships to high performing students or students who cannot afford to attend a four-year university right out of high school.
