Preserving the Colorado River as Water Demand Increases

The Colorado River is at risk to fall into a drought due to an increase in water demand as a result of climate change and growing populations. However, the high demand for water exceeds the river’s amount of water supply because it already supports millions of jobs, acres of farmland, and protects endangered fish and wildlife habitat. WaterSMART, a sustainable water initiative, has advocated the use of science and technology to improve water conservation.
