Based on a new field study, insecticides have recently been confirmed to cause damage to honeybee colonies.

The study, deemed the largest field trial in the world, suggests that both honeybees and wild bees are affected from a “cocktail effect” of multiple pesticides.

As a result of the findings, researchers are advising farmers to refrain from using pesticides that negatively impact bee colonies.

Due to disease and loss of habitats, pollinator species such as bees are declining but are important to human food production.

“This major study marks a watershed moment in the fight to protect our bees [and] fills a crucial gap in our scientific understanding,” said Doug Parr, Greenpeace UK’s chief scientist.
