Orange County will be investing more than $70 million on creating permanent housing options for the region’s homeless population. This is in addition to the $20 million already pledged to help the homeless population of the area, which the OC register reports as the largest sum the county has pledged to help end homelessness.

Additionally, the county will invest in temporary homeless camps for the areas of Irvine, Huntington and Laguna Niguel.

City officials have been under pressure as the population of homeless individuals have grown immensely over the years and as the city has done very little according to advocates, to help those with mental health issues living on the streets.

One of the county’s main projects will include efforts to house more than 200 homeless individuals living in Santa Ana.
