Online Dating Believed to be Linked to More STDs

Health officials believe the greater prevalence of STDs is directly correlated to an increase in online dating.

In Hawaii alone, cases of chlamydia, gonnorrhea, and syphilis have drastically increased, causing the highest numbers of STDs to be reported in the state in about 30 years.

With online dating becoming more popular, experts believe those seeking casual hookups through various apps and websites can place others in danger.

“As people rely on digital means of making connections, it can lead to circumstances where they might be more exposed to infection without them knowing it,” says health program coordinator Gerald Hasty.
