In light of the US leaving the Paris Climate Agreement, new research indicates that ocean acidification is severely impacting the West Coast.

The study conducted by researchers at Oregon State University illustrates that wildlife in the California current is suffering due to high levels of ocean acidification.

With higher levels of carbon in the atmosphere, oceans become more acidic and ultimately threatening strands of wildlife.

“We know that the changes that are coming at us are pretty big,” explained Francis Chan, lead author of the study and professor in the Integrative Biology Department at Oregon State.

“We’re starting to find out every week, every month about new marine life that are going to be affected,” Chan added.
