The Stonewall Inn in NY has been declared a national monument by President Obama, who declared the country’s first gay rights monument.
The Greenwich Village gay bar is a site of a police raid and subsequent riots in 1969 that prompted gay rights movements.
In a video released Friday, President Obama names Stonewall the newest edition to our nation’s national parks that tell America’s story and struggle for LGBT rights.
He went on to say that our national parks are sites that “reflect full stories of our country, the richness the diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us; that we are stronger together, that out of many, we are one.”
