A new study found that an increase in the presence of a certain brain fluid could help indicate if a child will have (or has) autism.
Autism can be hard to diagnose because of the various symptoms that are different from person to person, but if the fluid can become an indicator of children who are more likely to have autism, then it could present opportunities to diagnose them early on and provide them with the right education and health resources from the start.
The study published in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry was conducted by researchers at the University of California Davis and the University of North Carolina.
Researchers found that although the fluid has been found to be present in benign amounts, an excess of the fluid could be a marker of autism.
