Researchers have tested and developed what they are calling a mini pillbox that patients can swallow once a week that releases daily doses in the patient’s system.

Patients whose lives depend on taking daily medications and who still forget to take medications are more likely to overcome these difficulties if they only have to swallow a pill box once a week, and let the capsule do the work for the rest of the week.

The study published in Nature Communications discusses how the capsule would release daily doses of medications for patients combating HIV.

Researchers predict the capsule will be available for patients in the next couple of years.
