New Park Provides Free Produce for Citizens While Uniting Community

Two artists are encouraging citizens to not only explore neighborhoods but to also eat healthy through planting fruit trees and vegetable plants throughout Los Angeles.

David Burns and Austin Young first began to plant fruit trees around Southern California and distributed maps to locals in order to unite neighbors and communities.

Most recently, the artists planted trees at the Stoneview Nature Center, a five-acre public park in Los Angeles where residents can pick their own produce.

The fruit selected for the park has been known to thrive in the Southern California climate, ensuring the produce will be accessible for future community members.

“It’s more than just feeding people and thinking of gardening.  We’re also thinking of historic and cultural meaning,” Burns explained.
