New Method for Reproduction Condemned for Being Unethical

Based on new scientific discoveries centered on reproduction, researchers are predicting stem cells will be used to create embryos, ultimately allowing parents to select the appearance, traits, and health of their children.

By using stem cells from a couple’s skin, scientists will be able to make sperm and eggs that will be transmitted into embryos.

With many women facing severe and costly fertility treatments, the new methods of procreation will allow more couples to have children.

However, many are arguing the new treatment will cause ethical and medical dilemmas as parents can elect to screen their potential children for genetic diseases.

“This is not designer babies, this is selecting embryos,” explained Henry Greely, the director of the Center for Law and Biosciences at Stanford Law School.
