New Initiative to Potentially Increase Plastic Pollution

Several fossil fuel companies have launched a $180 billion initiative to increase plastic production, placing many species and ecosystems at risk.

Various corporations are set to contribute to a 40% increase in plastic production within the next decade, which would cause levels of pollution to rise.

”We could be locking in decades of expanded plastics production at precisely the time the world is realizing we should use far less of it,” said president of the US Center for International Environmental Law Carroll Muffett.

Scientists warn the increase in plastic can create a permanent pollution of the earth.

Environmentalists are calling for reduced packaging in order to reduce waste and carbon emissions.
