The Motown Museum in Detroit will expand its site by 40,000 square feet beginning in the fall.

The $50M expansion will include new exhibits, recording studios, a café and meeting spaces, among other renovations.

Between the months of October 2018 and April 2019, the museum will temporarily close with the expectation to re-open to the public in Spring 2019.

Detroit’s historic property finally received the “OK” from the District Commission after much debate over whether the expansion might disturb the nearby African American Business and Arts district.
