Workplace fatalities have been up for the last several years in the last decade, according to a recent analysis.
As the economy in the US began to recover, more people were employed, and workplace injuries increased as expected, reports LA Times. However another factor is that older people are working at older ages, and are also more likely to die on the job.
LA times reports that participation by older Americans has increased by 10 percent, going up to 20.3% among those ages 65 and older.
An analysis found that older Americans are more likely to die on the job because they are more fragile than younger workers. It urges workplaces to invest more to meet the needs of older workers and to help keep them safe in high-risk jobs.
The issue driving more Americans to die on the job is also that many are working into their older age because retirement is not an option and the cost of living is higher.
