The state of Massachusetts has expanded opportunities for inmates to shorten their prison sentences by participating in rehabilitation programs.
Earlier this week the bill passed in the House 151-0, “with no debate,” reported Metro US.
Under the Council of State Governments bill, inmates would be able to reduce their prison sentences by participating in a number of educational programs, vocational trainings, and other programs that help them prepare for reintegration into society upon release.
The bill is said to have the potential to reduce recidivism rates by up to 15 percent over the next six years.
