Many Young Adults with Autism Also Battling Mental Health Issues

Young adults with autism are more likely to also battle mental health issues simultaneously, according to a new report, making the transition into adulthood more difficult.

Although it is difficult to determine the level of impact of biological factors, environmental factors play a major role, according to motivational speaker, Daniel Share-Strom, an autistic 27-year old in Bradford Ontario.

The study published in the journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders examined data on over 5,000 young adults on the autism spectrum, and compared notes with data on over 10,000 non-autistic young adults who had developed a mental health disorder.

Researchers found that those on the autism spectrum were more likely to have a psychiatric diagnosis compared to those without autism and with another developmental disability.
