Counties throughout the US are failing to accurately transcribe criminal justice data, a trend that is impacting efforts to improve public safety.
While the US is comprised of over 3,000 counties, each county follows different methods in recording data on criminals.
As a result, information is often lost or not fully documented, causing wrong convictions and sentencings.
The state of Florida has sought to combat the issue by passing a bill which provides explicit instructions on collecting criminal data.
If successful, the bill may be implemented in other states to collect correct information on the backgrounds and circumstances of those in the justice system.
