The Cleveland Museum of Art will use a $1.5 million gift from June and Simon K. for a new conservation center focused on Chinese paintings, which museum leaders say is important for particularly fragile Chinese art.
The shortage of qualified Chinese paintings conservators is a widespread dilemma faced by museums across the country,” said museum director William Griswold.
The museum has previously launched efforts to improve conservation for Chinese Art by creating a training program for art conservators.
Cleveland Museum of Art’s new Li Center for Chinese Paintings Conservation, will encourage more conservators to focus on the preservation of fragile Chinese artworks and will create more opportunities for them within the museum itself.
