While individuals and families across the country and the globe are suffering from hunger, some are suffering from obesity, and it all boils down to a lack of nutrients.

People all around the world, even in the most impoverished countries, are suffering because they can’t access meals with adequate fruits and veggies.

Hunger is a difficult problem to solve because you can’t just give people food – they have to have nutrients that will provide them with a healthy foundation.

“For example, people can begin life not getting enough calories and become stunted — below average height for age — but by adulthood can become overweight due to an abundance of cheap calories,” reports NPR.

According to a new report published in The Lancet, there are more than 2 billion children and adults who are overweight; more than 150 million are stunted.

The solutions can come in many forms, an include investing in the production and distribution of nutrient-heavy foods, promoting breastfeeding to avoid malnutrition early on in life, and helping farmers succeed in growing and harvesting their crops.
