The Impact of Art Therapy on Veterans Suffering from PTSD

Research shows that nearly 20 percent of veterans who returned home as part of the Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) are suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and for many, and art therapy is ranked highly for treating veterans.

Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and Department of Defense, the project entitled Creative Forces works across the country with veterans, with different mediums of art, including musical therapy.

Because similar initiatives have proved to be highly successful in helping veterans overcome depression and anxiety, the project received more than $2M in funding last year.

For the new year, the initiative is expected to deliver more than 1,000 sessions.

Different veterans will require different programs and different forms of art therapy.
