Immigration Policy Threats Affect School Attendance

UNESCO’S Global Education Monitoring report, Building Bridges, Not Walls, highlights the effect of deportation and immigration policies on migrant children in their learning environments.

In the United States, students who have family members facing deportation have low attendance rates.

The effect is even greater in schools where ICE agents have access to students’ immigration status and school records.

DACA’s implementation is shown to counter part of the toll looming deportation takes on undocumented students.
