More Than Half of U.S. Babies and Toddlers Lack a Balanced Diet

A new study found that many babies and toddlers don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Although at least ninety percent of toddlers consume some fruit or vegetables, the least common vegetables they eat are dark green vegetables which are high in nutrients.

Researchers collected data from more than 2,000 participants, toddlers, compared to previous studies where data was collected from only parents.

The co-author of the study, Gandarvaka Miles, said that “a substantial proportion of American infants are not breastfed, vegetable consumption is lower than desires, and consumption of sweetened beverages and sugary snacks is prevalent.”
