Getty Art Museum Designed to Protect Art Against Natural Disasters

In the midst of wildfires spreading across Los Angeles proper, Ron Hartwig vice president of communications at the Getty Trust said that the Getty Museum building was designed to be the best location to keep art safe from harm in the case of a natural disaster.

The air filtration system keep art safe by “pushing air out,” to keep smoke from getting inside the galleries.

The greenery around the building itself consists of plants with high water content while gardeners clear the brush consistently.

Additionally, the Getty Museum has a water tank on site.

“While we are worried and will be until the last ember is out, we believe the art collection is in the safest place they can be,” Hartwig said earlier this week.
