Gentrification Impacting Mental Health of Citizens

As more neighborhoods across the US are becoming gentrified, displaced citizens are experiencing more mental health issues.

According to a recently published report, displaced individuals are twice as likely to be diagnosed and hospitalized compared to other citizens.

The rise in mental health issues could also contribute to other conditions including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

Gentrification currently impacts individuals in New York City the most as the study found that nearly a million people may be forced to move due to escalating rent rates.

Officials across the country are examining various housing and mental health services to maintain levels of diversity in neighborhoods and cities.
