The Gates Foundation recently announced a grant made to the Urban Institute which will help create the Partnership on Mobility from Poverty. “It (the Partnership) is a non-partisan group of leaders, experts, and practitioners who will identify promising interventions to make real, lasting progress against persistent poverty in America,” reports Medium.com.

The Partnership will provide valuable intellectual and practical resources for people working to reduce poverty in the United States from some of the brightest minds in the field. Gates Foundation CEO Sue Desmond-Hellman describes it as a “new approach to a very old problem.”

This initiative marks the Gates Foundation’s first substantial entry into philanthropy focused on poverty-reduction within the United States.
