Former Women’s Prison in NYC to House Nonprofits for Women

In a project led by the Goren Group and the NoVo Foundation, the site of the former Bayview Correctional Facility in NYC’s Chelsea district will soon be redeveloped into offices for women’s service nonprofits.

The announcement in late October to turn the building into nonprofit office space delighted community members who were happy the building would not be torn down for luxury condos. Instead, developers plan to restore some lost features of the building, including the swimming pool and chapel. Some new features include an art gallery and landscaped terraces.

Leaders of the Goren Group expect groundbreaking for “The Women’s Building” to occur in approximately one year.
