Facebook Donates $4.5M to Accelerate High Quality Journalism

A new donation from Facebook will be alotting $4.5 million to advance nonprofit news sources and journalism around the U.S.

At least $3.5 million go to a Facebook Membership Accelerator Program to support news organizations to promote higher quality of journalism and reliable news sources at the local level.

Another $1 million will go NewsMatch, an organization that matches donations for journalism and news sources.

The accelerator program has helped news organizations such as the San Francisco chronicle, among others, to experience “record-breaking” subscriptions in the last year.
