The Face of Philanthropy is Changing as More Women Take Power

According to a report in the Economist, the percentage of private wealth held by women is growing. In just five years, private wealth among females grew from $34 trillion to $51 trillion, and as that shift continues, the face of philanthropy is changing too.

It is no secret that men hold more wealth than women in the U.S. and around the globe, but studies have shown that women in power are more likely to invest in philanthropic causes. Forbes studies have shown that “women give twice as much of their wealth as men do.”

Experts predict that as women continue to earn more wealth, philanthropic causes will also grow across the U.S.

The Women’s Collective Giving Network, for example, is made up of more than 10,000 women philanthropists. Furthermore, women are more likely to invest in causes that impact women and girls, and philanthropy in these areas is more likely to expand as well.
