Democrat lawmakers had urged state leaders to help veterans and last year, DeVos and the Acting Veteran Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie started reaching out to veterans who qualify. At least 22,000 disabled veterans with student debts have been relieved of $650 million in student debt.

The process had still posed many barriers for veterans, so this month it was announced that it would be automatically granted for qualifying disabled veterans to have their student loan debt wiped out.

“Supporting and caring for those who have sacrificed much in service to our country is a priority for President Trump and the entire administration,” said DeVos, as reported by Inside Higher Ed.
