The Trump administration’s failure to renew the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the upcoming year will deeply affect thousands of children across the U.S. who rely on the program for basic health coverage.

The program has been around since 1997 and more than 8 million children across the country are enrolled in the program according to Quartz.

Both federal and state governments fund the program, but for the upcoming year the funds for the program were not renewed.

The Kaiser Family Foundation projects that most state that fund the program on their own will run out of money to keep it afloat by the end of March 2018.

Within the states that have announced that the program will be phased out by the beginning of next year, there are over 600,000 children that will lose coverage, as reported by Quartz.
