The organization dedicated to exploring the deep ocean, Nekton, launched a project in July to explore the unknown parts of the ocean through sampling pods.

Very little today is known of our oceans, only about .0001 percent of the ocean has been explored. Thus Nekton has sent tiny pods into deep sea dives on the coast of Bermuda to collect samples and will continue to the Mediterranean sea.

The pods have so far discovered new species, coral forests, and fossilized beaches, as reported by Grist. More discoveries are reflecting changes in circulation of nutrition caused by global warming.
