Cases of Lung Cancer More Common Among Women Now

A new study found that lung cancer is more common among women than men in the United States. In large, this is a result of lung cancer rates dropping all across the board, and decreasing more dramatically for men.

Lung cancer is now more common among white and Hispanic women, according to the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Most cases of lung cancer are due to smoking, say researchers, however the reason for which women are at higher rates is not completely clear. It is possible that although men and women have stopped smoking at the same rates, women have slower recoveries and therefore their risk of developing lung cancer lingers longer.
